1069 Foldaway Boar

A boar leather foldaway outback hat

The 1069 Foldaway Boar is an outback hat made from genuine USA boar leather, handcrafted in Minnesota, that folds into the travel bag that comes with it. Boar is one of the less common hides we work with.

It comes in two colors. Charcoal is dark and understated, the kind of hat that goes with a canvas jacket or a good wool coat. Whiskey is the warmer of the two.

Fold it up and it fits in the supplied bag, which makes it an easy hat to bring on a road trip, a hunting trip or a flight to see family. Unpack it and wear it. The leather is water resistant and has 50+ UV protection, so it’s ready for a morning in a duck blind, an afternoon on the tractor or a cold drizzle at a fall football game.

We also make foldaway hats in deer, cattle leather and suede. The 2053 Foldaway Deer is a soft, feather light option if you want to compare. To read up on how boar, bison, kangaroo and the other hides differ, see our leather hat guide.

Sizing is straightforward. Measure around your forehead about a finger’s width above the eyebrows and just above the ears, then check the size chart. Between sizes, choose the larger size and use the free sizing kit to fine-tune the fit. Leather care is simple too: air dry it at room temperature if it gets wet, and condition it now and then.
