A foldable kangaroo leather outback hat with a stonewash finish

The 1018 Squashy Kangaroo is a foldable outback hat made from Australian vintage kangaroo leather and handcrafted in Minnesota, USA. The stonewash finish gives the leather a soft, lived-in look from the first day, and a two-tone hatband sits around the crown. Pick from two colors: Ironstone or Vintage.

Why kangaroo? The hide is thin, and it’s known for being strong for its weight. On your head that means a hat that stays light through a long afternoon on the water or a day of walking a new city. The leather is water resistant and the hat has 50+ UV protection, so a passing shower or a bright noon sun is no reason to take it off.

When you’re done, fold it into the travel bag that comes with it. It fits in a carry-on or the side pocket of a duffel, which makes it an easy hat to bring on a fishing trip.

Getting the size right

Wrap a soft tape around your head about a finger’s width above the eyebrows and just above the ears, then check the number against our leather hat chart (Small through XXLarge). This hat ships with a free Hat Sizing Kit, two foam strips that tuck under the sweatband. If you fall between two sizes, choose the larger size and use the sizing kit to fine-tune the fit. The hat sizing guide has pictures of each step.

If it gets soaked, let it air dry at room temperature away from heaters, and give the leather a little conditioner now and then. Curious how kangaroo compares with bison, goat and cattle hide?     Bought the vintage kangaroo hat and I love it. Looks great and is tough and durable. This hat I wear when I hunt, fish, shoot or hike. It’s my rugged hat I wear for the outdoors. I put some weatherproof leather conditioner on it and the water just beads off of it. Fold it up and put it in your pocket, whip it out and impress the ladies.

    I just received my vintage kangaroo hat & there’s nothing like that new leather smell. The size is perfect & looks just like the pictures. As soon as I put it on I immediately took 47 selfies & edited myself into some pictures from the 1992 Jurassic Park movie because the hat looks similar to the character Robert Muldoon plays..to me anyway. Great job, Barmah. You’ve helped to wake the inner cosplay in me..or LARPer..whatever pronoun is politically correct nowadays..enjoy. -Cheers
