A packable bison leather outback hat
The 1085 Squashy Bison is a leather outback hat made from premium American full-grain bison leather and handcrafted in Minnesota, USA. It has a vintage oiled and waxed finish, designed to look old when it’s new.

That’s the whole idea behind the Squashy name. Fold it into the travel bag that comes with it, or into the top of a pack on the way to the trailhead, and it comes back out ready to wear. It goes upland hunting in the fall, out on the boat in summer, and on flights where there’s no room for a hat box.
Full-grain means the outer grain layer of the bison hide is left on, so you see the natural surface of the leather. The oiled and waxed finish sheds water, and like any waxed leather it darkens and picks up marks as you wear it. It’s water resistant with 50+ UV protection. Colors: Black, Brown and Rustic.
Fit and sizing
Sizes go from Small to XXLarge on our leather hat chart. Measure with a soft tape around your head about a finger’s width above the eyebrows and just above the ears. A free Hat Sizing Kit comes in the box, with two foam strips that go under the sweatband to fine-tune the fit. Between sizes? Order the larger one and fine-tune it with the kit.

My favorite hat! The bison leather is thick fullgrain, with a nice soft hand. It conforms to your head but still keeps its shape. The color is exactly as pictured. Unlike most good-looking hats, you can stuff it into a backpack without ruining it, although you shouldn’t store it squashed or folded. The size chart is accurate. Very reasonably priced for the high-quality materials and construction, and it’s handmade in the USA.
